Welcome back to another entry of In Case You Wish You Missed It, the news you wish wouldn’t happen but, somehow, does.

It was recently learned that Portland Community College in Oregon will be holding a month-long event meant to educate and inspire that long-oppressed group of Americans. That event will be known as “Whiteness History Month.”

No, really. Whiteness History Month. It would seem like a cruel joke that I would attach to the Bundy militia day camp in Oregon’s bird sanctuary, but it’s true. It is not, however, a ridiculous, month-long White Power rally. The term “whiteness” has stemmed from an analysis of social temperaments that ideas like white privilege cultivate. In effect, it is a study on racism, not white pride.

Unfortunately, the above is an extremely long disclaimer to put on a banner. Maybe They should just replace “Whiteness” with something a little less… white-ish. Maybe “Racial History Month.” Too vague? “American Racial History Month.” That drives the point home, right?
