Fans of Ben Stiller will certainly be anticipating his new movie, Tropic Thunder .Thunder’ will be the fourth movie in which Stiller steps behind the lens as director, a role he has a very good track record with, considering his previous three films are Reality Bites, Cable Guy, and Zoolander. What’s that? You thought Zoolander sucked? Well you know what? You suck!

   Sorry. Sometimes I get upset.

Anyway, one major thing that audiences will notice in the trailer, which is set to debut on St. Patty’s Day, is the inclusion of a very dark skinned actor. What’s that? A black man in a movie? What’s so crazy about that, you ask? Simply this: his name is Robert Downey Jr.    That’s right people, Robert Downey Jr. is stepping into the very.. um, proud.. no.. hmm, storied? no… um… existing? cinematic footsteps of Al Jolsen, and C. Thomas Howell. The only major difference, according to those who have seen the movie (including real African Americans) is that it actually works very well. According to this article from Entertainment Weekly, what makes it work is that Downey isn’t *really* playing a black guy, he’s playing an “actor playing a black guy.”

The satire, according to the filmmakers, is not of African Americans, but of actors who go to ridiculous lengths for parts. Just think of all the crazy things actors have done to win Oscars, like George Clooney doing actual harm to his body by gaining too much weight too fast for Syriana. And what about Halle Berry, Julia Roberts, and Charlize Theron, who all (gasp!) made themselves ugly! Because normally they’re hot, but not this time! How brave!

At any rate, most people who I surveyed for this article, which was a broad, far-reaching spectrum of absolutely no one but myself, agreed that it at least can’t be any more offensive or damaging to race relations in America than White Chicks.
