New York, NY: A new fashion trend is having a resurgence across the nation, thanks to Christian Siriano, this year’s winner of BRAVO’s Project Runway. That trend, for lack of a better term, is gender re-reversal. This fashion features men and women dressing as if they are of the opposite sex dressing as if they were of their original gender.
One example is Christian Siriano himself, a man dressing like a woman dressing like a man. The focus is on his fabulous anti-butch hairstyle, long, but styled like many male hipsters in the alternative music scene. We must also make note of his use of trendy vests, tight, low-hung jeans, and studded black belts, normal fashion staples for fashion-sensed women.
This fashion was once highly regarded in the 80’s, especially in the New Wave music scene. Such performers as Dead or Alive, Boy George, Adam Ant, and David Bowie made their 
impression with this fashion sense, however most of the time this was more focused on cross-dressing for the stage. Today, it is not only an attribute of showman/woman-ship, but seemingly a ploy to confuse the more heterosexual male to question what “team” they are playing for, and create a standard more focused on personality and general “hotness” as opposed to gender preference. This should not be confused with the normal male hipster fashion used by men to make women more comfortable around them due to their affeminate nature.
It is not only reserved for tricky men, either. Thanks in part to the young Siriano’s victory on the Project Runway television series, he now has $100,000 to spend creating even more confusing fashion trends. One of these possible accessories would help women dress as men dressing as women. A certain make-up is being researched in order to shadow women’s necks in order to give the appearance of an Adam’s Apple, as well as a new blush to create a 5 o’clock shadow on the cheeks and chin. This will give the appearance of a drag queen, and may possibly trick gay men into being interested in women.
It is hard to say how confusing any of this may be for women, as men seem to be the focus on gender re-reversal. This may be in part to men generally being more hung up on who they are attracted to, both straight and gay alike.
