Claymation Returns: A Review of Mary & Max

Claymation Returns: A Review of Mary & Max

| August 25, 2010 | 0 Comments

Earlier, Coraline hit the public with tremendous success. Stop-motion animation was shot in 3-D, blending the old with the new with fantastic success.

However, I haven’t given a crap about the return of claymation for at least a decade, until I saw Mary & Max.

For those of you, like me, that have ever been addicted to Star Wars, knapsacks with band logos painted in white-out, comic books, and cheese, it would be a tough road to find a hip-hop act that truly spoke to you and your insecurities.

Well, we’re all in luck. Introducing MC Chris, and his second to latest album, MC Chris Is Dead.

Iron Man 2: The Quest for Future References

| May 10, 2010 | 0 Comments

With a star-studded cast backing up the sequel to a movie that reclaimed comic-book movies, you’d think it would be hard for Iron Man 2 to fail.

Unfortunately, no-one figured that lazy storylines would play into the equation.

Review of Not An Airplane: Things and People

Review of Not An Airplane: Things and People

| March 29, 2010 | 0 Comments

Not An Airplane has been here at The Inept Owl for longer than I have. Each time they’ve had a record release, a new writer would take up the review.

I don’t know if this means that they are our honorary introduction music, to be plugged into people’s heads as they type in our web address, but it’s a special thing, nonetheless.

Now, the mantle comes down to me, as I review their latest, “Things and People”.

Tim Burton’s Unexpected Alice: Review

Tim Burton’s Unexpected Alice: Review

| March 15, 2010 | 0 Comments

When you put the phrases “Tim Burton” and “Alice In Wonderland” together, certain expectations arise. You’re ready for the odd and twisted. Add 3-D to the mix, and you’re expecting to feel like you’re tripping out without the need for a chemical stimulant.

But, after Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, did I really expect that? Sadly, no, but I was really hoping for it, anyway.

Do the words Boards of Canada, Negativland, and Mr. Bungle mean more than gibberish to you?

If the answer is yes, you should definitely check out LodemidiQuail, an electronica soundscaper with a fourth-dimensional lawnmower.

If the answer is no, what do you have to lose?

Teen Wolf Tres? A Movie Review of Wolfman

Anthony Hopkins; Benicio Del Toro; Hugo Weaving; decades of improvement for transformational effects. What could possibly go wrong for the 2010 adaptation of Wolfman?

I almost didn’t find out, since I almost fell asleep half-way through the film, but I’ll give it a shot.

A Very Sunny Christmas Review

A Very Sunny Christmas Review

| November 18, 2009 | 0 Comments

When I heard It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia was releasing a Christmas Special DVD, I was a little annoyed. Don’t get me wrong, I was just as annoyed at seeing Jim Carrey’s Christmas Carol in 3-D Disney Awesomeness in theaters beginning last Thursday. I don’t even do 12 days of Christmas, unless you count shopping days. A week before Christmas, I pop Bill Murray’s Scrooged into the DVD player, and don’t take it out except for a viewing of Gremlins, Bad Santa, Nightmare Before Christmas, and The Ref. There are others, but those are the main seasonal movies in my world.

Call Your Travel Agent: A Zombieland Review

| October 14, 2009 | 0 Comments

Just imagine: a world where any car or home you find, you can have; a time when you can shoot off your guns in the middle of Times Square; a place where you can eat all the Twinkies you want…if you can find them.

The only problem: running for your life from zombies, and a constant fear of using the bathroom.

Welcome to Zombieland.
