Breaking It Down: Who Will be DC’s Iconic Gay Super Hero?

Breaking It Down: Who Will be DC’s Iconic Gay Super Hero?

| May 29, 2012 | 2 Comments

Homosexuality in comic books has been little more than a slighting joke in the past. From cracks about tight underwear to the possibility of a male duo beating more than criminals, the idea of a gay super hero has been little more than a game of suspicion, feeding off the idea that a super hero […]

Gaming Diary: Diablo 3 – Day 1

Gaming Diary: Diablo 3 – Day 1

Finally, after a long hiatus from online gaming because A) Diablo 2 got old, and B) World of Warcraft makes you pay by the month, which is useless to me because I sometimes only play games once a month, a game that I knew would drag me back in was released: Diablo 3. Normally, I’m […]

Gaming Diary: Dead Island (Day 2)

Gaming Diary: Dead Island (Day 2)

| December 5, 2011 | 0 Comments

I have a soft, bloody spot in my heart for zombies. From the days of Lucio Fulci to when Romero was at his best to AMC’s The Walking Dead, zombie stories continue to excite me. Maybe I’m a sucker for the end of the world, or critical of the zombification of the world as we know it now, but I stand by my zombie love. So here I am, writing not a review, but a journal log of my time on Dead Island, in order to annoy my editor with a plethora of posts that may just turn this website into a gaming review. This is Day 2. Enjoy.

Maybe I’m a sucker for the end of the world, or critical of the zombification of the world as we know it now, but I stand by my zombie love. When I saw the previews for the zombie RPG Dead Island, I immediately had to have it. So here I am, writing not a review, but a journal log of my time on Dead Island. This is Day 1. Enjoy.

Not An Airplane: It Could Just Be This Place(or time) Review

Not An Airplane: It Could Just Be This Place(or time) Review

| November 7, 2011 | 0 Comments

Reviewing music can be a tedious job. To create one, you have to take into account your interpretation of what the artist hoped to accomplish and meld it with how well you believe he or she accomplished this end, while also discussing how you feel about said hopeful interpretation accomplishment and what it means to accomplish such an interpretation… thusly. That was so heavy and confusing my brain exploded. But that is the motion my mind went into when our editor emailed me the latest by Not an Airplane, “It Could Just Be This Place”.

Art Creature’s Halloween Segment: FX Artist Jeremy Selenfriend

Art Creature’s Halloween Segment: FX Artist Jeremy Selenfriend

In the world of the entertainment industry, the artisans that usually gain the most attention are the ones that are always in your face: actors and actresses, directors, lead vocalists… Behind the show, however, are the artisans that make sure the attention-getters look and sound good: soundboard mixers, cinematographers, set designers, costume designers, and make-up and special FX artists. Without these individuals, we would be forced to submit to one-frame, monophonic sound film where you can see the zippers on the backs of monsters. It is with this respect for the artists behind the scenes that a recent web-series, Art Creature, has take its cue from.

Shared Progress: A Review of “Late Bloomer” by The Northstar Session

Shared Progress: A Review of “Late Bloomer” by The Northstar Session

| June 28, 2011 | 0 Comments

The Inept Owl has been lucky enough to have a few artists in multiple fields come back again and again with new albums, ideas, and visions. It has the feel of a family reunion, as we see each other grow up and grow out each time we get together for a brief moment in the year. Such is the case with The Northstar Session as I review their latest album, “Late Bloomer”.

When TV Networks Offer Virgin Sacrifices: Fall Previews for ABC

The promotional world of satire and parody mediums is a dark, but adventurous place. The critical gauntlet for bands, movies, television shows, and anything else that accidentally makes it into our mailbox is long, blood-thirsty, and rarely praising. Praise isn’t funny. Mockery is. Mockery of praise is funny. Praising mockery isn’t. Mocking the praising of mock….well, you get the point. The one standing at the dark alter today: ABC and two new shows slated for the Fall season.

Iron Man 2: The Quest for Future References

| May 10, 2010 | 0 Comments

With a star-studded cast backing up the sequel to a movie that reclaimed comic-book movies, you’d think it would be hard for Iron Man 2 to fail.

Unfortunately, no-one figured that lazy storylines would play into the equation.

Review of Not An Airplane: Things and People

Review of Not An Airplane: Things and People

| March 29, 2010 | 0 Comments

Not An Airplane has been here at The Inept Owl for longer than I have. Each time they’ve had a record release, a new writer would take up the review.

I don’t know if this means that they are our honorary introduction music, to be plugged into people’s heads as they type in our web address, but it’s a special thing, nonetheless.

Now, the mantle comes down to me, as I review their latest, “Things and People”.
